Having completed six commercial premises with a previous client, I was approached by a further commercial client who had seen my previous work and hoped that I could help them achieve a similar outcome. After pitching to a team of managers, I was really happy when I received the call to say they wanted me on board with their future projects. This was last summer and since this time I have been really busy working away on schemes, sample boards, furniture sourcing and styling the premises. I have just completed the third one for them and I am really happy with the results. However, I couldn't have achieved this without the help and support of the wonderful team of trades I work with. The conception of the vision is really translated exceptionally well into visuals that I am able to show my client with confidence that they will be able to see the end result and have confidence in me going forward into the project itself. This work is completed by Anita Brown 3D Visualisation - she is amazingly talented, quick and nothing is too much trouble. I cannot recommend her services highly enough. To give you an idea of how this works - you can see the 3D visuals she produced for my scheme before any work had taken place, and then the images of the scheme once implemented. It really is amazing and people often ask if the 3D images are actual photos.
"I have worked with Jane now for over 8 years, I can give her any job to complete, she captures my design and vision and makes it a reality."
I would also like to mention my wonderful, creative, professional and loyal seamstress - Jane Alexander Interiors. I have worked with Jane now for over 8 years, I can give her any job to complete, she captures my design and vision and makes it a reality. She is a true professional and the extent of her knowledge is amazing. She helped with all the pelmets, blinds and other soft furnishings within the schemes really making them come to life.
Emma from Bumbleblue has again made exquisite hand finished bespoke signs for the project - they look wonderful, completely in keeping with the overall design and again, her talent and professionalism is second to none. A true gem.
My decorator, stained glass studio, carpet fitters, carpenter and handyman 'James' are the anchors to my work! Showing absolute professionalism at all times, I can rely on them completely and can have a laugh together too (sometimes needed!).
I feel truly blessed and extremely lucky to have built these working relationships with them all - and sometimes it's nice to be thanked! so - Thank you all SO much, Nicky xx
We apologises for the radio silence as of late. Some large interior design projects have been very demanding on my design schedule recently (which we will be sharing with you soon). But we wanted to let you know that we will be at this amazing event again this year.
To find out more about the Fabulous Places Spring Market, pop by their facebook. Open today 10am - 4pm with £2 entry.
We would love to see you.
I have taken the difficult decision to take my shop down from the webshop for the current time - I realised my lovely customers all wanted more bespoke designs/products - a lot of which I arrange via email requests. My design services are also keeping me really busy at the moment and so I would rather be able to manage customers expectations via a bespoke ordering service. So please still contact me if there is anything you see on my website that you would like to order - I will also be popping photos of products on my social media pages with the options to buy so keep an eye out for bargains there too!
Don't forget the Christmas fairs I am going to be exhibiting at this year too - The fabulous Christmas Home, Gift and Food Market at The Roundhouse on November 12th and 13th. I will also be at The Rectory Christmas fair in Carlton, Leicestershire on the 9th and 10th of November - please contact me for more details. At both these events I will have all my products and perfect pressies for you to buy - making your home dreamy for the festive period
When I initially started Joy Interiors, I promoted my design services locally to where I live in Derbyshire. This enabled me to visit clients homes and provide a truly personal service. However, I quickly realised that from my social media reach, there were a large number of lovely people that were following me and wanted my advice on their own homes but were too far away to make this possible - which is when my photo consultation service was launched.
This is proving to be really popular with customers - it is a simple process that involves an initial email explaining the room/s that you would like help with - with photographs attached (simply taken from your mobile phone), room dimensions and if you have any particular likes/dislikes when it comes to style/colours etc. I then create a scheme based around these details and what I feel would work best from the photographs provided, bearing in mind light, space, items you wish to keep/replace and your own style. I then send a detailed email back to you, explaining the scheme fully - and attach links to where items can be sourced. If required - I will also attached a digital mood board showing images of items/colours I have recommended. I suggest colours, layout, accessories etc and should you wish any further services to complete your scheme (ie curtains/blinds/cushions) a quote for these to be completed will also be attached.
This allows you to have a completely bespoke design, tailored to your own requirements - without leaving the comfort of your home. It can be an ongoing process too - I am happy to continue to answer your dilemmas' until your room is complete.
One of my clients is based in Milton Keynes and this service has worked really well for her - we are now on her fourth room!
Prices for this service start from £60 (depending on room size and what is required) but a quote for my work is sent at the start so you can see exactly where your costs lie and there are no hidden payments.
Please contact me for more details - I would love to help create the home you dream of
Competition over on our FACEBOOK page.
Excited is an understatement when I was approached early last year by the rather lovely Janet McMeekin, to see if I would be interested in having my home featured in a national Home magazine. As I am a complete addict to most of these magazines, I was thrilled to be asked. It was a fabulous experience - I honestly had my eyes opened to the extreme hard work, time and preparation that goes into each article.
The first part of the process was to take a few images myself of each room, they were then sent to Janet and then it was a question of waiting......something I am not an expert at! I heard fairly quickly that House Beautiful would be really keen to include our home. The next step was to arrange a day for the full professional photo shoot - this involved an awful lot of cleaning/tidying and ensuring the boys would all be away from home for the day - a military operation in itself! It was worth all the organisation though, I had an amazing day with Jeremy - the very talented photographer who's attention to detail was second to none. I was amazed at how long each shot took - ensuring everything was in the perfect position for the best angled image - and although poor Jeremy spent the whole day with me - the time seemed to fly by.
I learnt so much and I am truly grateful to have been a part of it. Janet then popped for a visit (which involved cups of tea and meeting her lovely family), and I was able to explain in detail the work we had completed within our home. I think she was grateful to see this in person as it had been such a quirky restoration it was much easier than trying to visualise away from the house. Janet also interviewed me (although because Janet is so lovely and friendly, this felt much more like a good old chat!)...I explained in detail the process we had taken in restoring and extending our home, and giving details of where items within my home could be sourced. Janet then wrote the most wonderful article that ultimately feature within the magazine.
I was so happy with how she had really captured all of what I had tried to explain, my feelings and the hard work we had put into our little family home. At this point - it was another waiting game....I did not know which month the feature would be in - at the back of my mind I thought it may be the Autumn and so I was shocked when we were taking a family break during the Easter holidays and my neighbour (and lovely friend too) sent me a text message saying she was reading all about our home! she subscribes to the magazine and had received her copy early. The following few days were spent desperately trying to get a hard copy of the magazine - only to be successful the day before we returned home to my subscriber copy that had been sitting on my doormat for a week! typical! The whole experience has been an absolute pleasure to be part of, Janet is a wonderful, kind and experienced writer who's passion for her work is evident. Plus, the boys now think they are celebrities ! Perfect!
If, like myself, you love your home and would like me to feature it in one of the magazines I write for, please drop a line to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01243 792379.
A bit different to my usual schemes - back in 2014, I was asked to help with the design for a funeral home that was being renovated by the Co-operative. My design brief was to reinvent the perception of traditional funeral homes (dark colours/leather/reds/greens) and provide a whole new experience for clients - providing a touch of ' hotel boutique' with the styling.
With this in mind - I produced sample boards which I presented to my client - showing soft lilac/greys and silver as a colour scheme. This allowed the overall image to work alongside their signage/literature and create a calming atmosphere. I sourced bespoke furniture which was all made to specific requirements, designer wall art to create feature walls adding depth and interest, and chose colours from the Little Greene paint collection.
The first premises we introduced the scheme at was Rugby in Warwickshire. The feedback was fabulous - and I went on to help with 5 further premises, including Warwick, Leamington, Coventry, Hinckley and Kenilworth. I made slight changes as we went through to just add a different 'twist' to each one. This included adding 'checked' fabrics and changes to the bespoke wooden furniture.
The organisation were a pleasure to work alongside - and I am thrilled with the end results.

Wow - another busy few weeks....the Christmas Fairs now feel like a long time ago! Christmas At The Rectory was amazing - simply gorgeous setting, lovely hosts and fab stall holders. £5831 was also raised for two charities - CLIC Sargent and Epilepsy Action.
Deck the Halls at Derby Silk Mill was another magical event. Stunning historical building, helped with the beautiful styling by the event organisers - Fabulous Places and Birds in the Attic...it was really intimate with the chance to buy really special touches for Christmas presents and festive styling. I couldn't resist a dreamy dried hydrangea wreath, made by the very talented Emily Wisher - looks very special in my kitchen.
Now I'm in the middle of frantically ensuring clients have their designs realised before their friends/family descend for festive celebrations. I have the pleasure of helping with the fittings and witnessing the magic of my seamstress's talent - although I have every faith in my designs, I still adore seeing it all come together and leave with very happy clients.
I am extremely lucky to be able to work with such wonderful trades - I couldn't do it without them.
As I write this, there are only 10 sleeps until Christmas! Excited is an understatement. I think it helps having three young boys at home who I can only describe as quite manic at the moment! Their enthusiasm and excitement is infectious....there is something very special about seeing the amazement and wonder again through the eyes of little ones. Remember - no matter how old you are, if you believe - magic will happen xxx
Have a wonderful Christmas and peaceful new year,
*And to say thank you and a very Merry Christmas, we would like to offer you all a small token and offer a little phone wallpaper freebie, simple click the image. Save to your phone and save as your wallpaper.
I am in the middle of a fabulously busy November. Here are a few snippets of what I have been up to...
- I was lucky enough to exhibit at The Roundhouse in Derby last weekend - organised by Fabulous places. I always love attending these events, they are so well organised and advertised, meaning I get to meet lots of wonderful customers and catch up with the lovely stall holders too. The Christmas Market is especially lovely - They are always so festive and dreamy - the perfect start to Christmas! If you didn't manage to get there this year you must pop it in your diaries for the next one. Lots of wonderful stalls selling all sorts of gorgeous items for presents (or yourself - I won't tell!), Prossecco bar, tea room, cake.....need I say more! truly magical.
Once you read this the next events will already have passed but I am busily preparing for the 3 day Christmas Fair at The Rectory, Carlton, Leicestershire. This event starts tomorrow (18th November) and finishes on the 20th. This will be the first one I have been kind enough to have been invited to but I have heard amazing things about what a great event it is. The monies raised also go to extremely worthwhile charities - I can't wait to update you with how it went in my next newsletter!
My final event for November is on Sunday 22nd at Derby Silk Mill 'Deck The Halls' - again, tremendously well organised by fabulous places and Birds in The Attic. This is the first event of this kind and I have to say - I am really honoured to have been asked to exhibit, but also really excited to be a part of what is going to be a really special day. Not only will there be stalls displaying beautiful products to buy, but there are also demonstrations being held to really help you feel prepared for the festive season. Again - I look forward to sharing how the day went with you in my next newsletter.
Alongside all of these events, I am still working with lovely clients on design schemes for their homes and commercial premises. Historically always a busy time of year as understandably, people want their homes looking beautiful for Christmas!
I am still on track to launch the online shop on December 1st - don't forget your discount code!
One of the products I will be selling are bespoke footstools. I have an amazingly talented upholsterer - everything he touches is stunning! You may have seen items I have been posting on my social media pages - everything is really special and it is sometimes hard to part with items when they go to their new homes. If you have an item of furniture that needs the love putting back into it - please contact me. I can help with fabric choices too. The footstools can be made in any size and fabric, making them completely unique. I have just taken an order for one in Grey Hereford Cow fabric by the fabulous Milton & Manor - which will be travelling to Scotland when finished!
Another extremely talented lady that I have the absolute pleasure of working with is Emma from Bumbleblue. She has designed and made, gorgeous handpainted wooden signs especially for my webshop - I feel very lucky! She made our pretty home sign - 'Primrose Cottage' - you can see how simply stunning her creations are (see image) - if you would like any personalised signs creating please contact me.
I feel I could keep writing about everything that is happening for pages more - I absolutely love my work and love sharing my projects with you. If there is anything in particular you would like to hear about in future newsletters / journal entries then please let me know. I would love to hear from you.
